Harold joined the U.S. Army when he was just 17, and was awarded a Bronze Star before his Honorable Discharge as a Master Sergeant with 21 years of service including tours in Korea and Viet Nam. He is a member of the VFW Post 3714 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Harold then served as a U.S. Customs Officer for 20 years. He loved the sea. He loved to fish, could play the harmonica like a pro, and always had a book to read. However, his favorite pastime was telling stories, and he had many to share.
He is survived by his retired traveling companion and wife, Donna Jean, at the family home, his brother Howard (Kathryn), daughter Patti (Eric), son Mike, daughter Pam (Lynn), son Ernie (Shelly), daughter Lyn (Mike), daughter Sylvia, son Karl; and his grandchildren, Tony (Marion), Aubree, Olivia, as well as his great grandchild, Ezra Hayden. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 38 years, Anna Sanford; sisters Mary and Irene, and brother Charlie.
He was always kind, loving, and thought of others first. His generous and loving nature will be missed by all who knew him. May his spirit soar free and fly high with the Eagle.
A Celebration of Life for Harold will be held on March 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Burley Funeral Chapel
