

Harvey Gage Rollin, age 103, passed away at his home outside of Oak Harbor on April 4, 2013. He was born on April 18, 1909, in Duluth, Minnesota to John Vern and Janet (Weddell) Rollin. Harvey graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth in 1928. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota graduating in 1933. He worked for various companies in Machine Design. Some of his projects were the John Deere Model M Tractor, The Big Bear Ski Lift, sailboat winches and various hoists and derricks, packaging conveyors and a tomato harvester.
Harvey enjoyed the outdoors, with canoeing, camping and fishing topping the list. He put his mechanical skills to work around the house designing and building a garage door opener out of “parts”. He had fun on his own terms, especially loving and caring for the Rollin clan.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, two wives; Louise Mary and Priscilla, a grandson Albert A. Rollin and brothers Harold Edward, Vern Gordon, and Lawrence William Rollin. He is survived by his children Bruce Gray Rollin of San Bruno, California, Douglas Earl Rollin and wife Sally of Oak Harbor, WA and Janet Louise Rollin of Redwood City, California, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, a brother Rev. Robert Earl Rollin of St Paul, Minnesota and sister Lucille R. Reisland of Cleveland, Ohio.
At his request, services will be private. The family would like to give a special thank you to Home Health Care of Whidbey General Hospital and their staff: Ms. Tammy, Ms. Coleen, Ms. Carol, Ms. Lee, Ms. Samantha, Ms. Kate and all that came to help care for Harvey.
