Ila Deanne Pleasance, went home to her Lord and Savior November 18, 2012. She was born Ila Deanne Lawrence on August 23, 1930, and raised in Seattle. She attended Western Washington University and graduated with a business degree. She met her husband-to-be, Carroll, at church during her high school years. They were married February 14, 1951. After Carroll completed school at the University of Washington, they moved to Richland, Washington. Carroll had been offered an engineering position with General Electric at the Hanford nuclear facility. Ila applied for a secretarial job with General Electric at the same facility. As became typical, after several months of working, she moved to the top ranks of the Secretarial Pool, and soon was requested to be the Secretary to the Vice President of the facility. Their son Randy was born in Richland in June of 1954. Later, the family moved to Massachusetts for three years, but returned to Seattle in 1962. In 1973, they moved to Northern California. They again returned to Washington in 2005, this time to Whidbey Island.
When she returned to work after Randy was in college, she once again was an Executive Secretary for Enerco, National Steel, Bailey Meter, and finally at Goodyear. After retiring from Goodyear, she and Carroll (retired from General Electric) worked for another 18 years at Coast Business Communications, their family-owned Audio-Viusal Contracting company.
Ila was always active in the churches they attended. She taught Sunday School, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a member of many “circles”. She remained active until Breast Cancer forced a slower pace. She had absolutely no fear of death, rather referring to it as her next “adventure”. For her, life is summed up in Psalms 27:1, “The LORD is my Light and my Salvation – whom shall I fear or dread? The LORD is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?”
She is survived by Carroll, her Husband of 61 years, and her son, Randy.
