

Born on November 2, 1938 to the late Joseph and Mary Louise Urbauer, in Chicago, Illinois, Donald graduated from Harper High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Education from the University of Illinois. On October 14, 1967, he married the love of his life, the late Shirley (née Ruth).
Donald dedicated his professional life to the Iron Workers trade, proudly serving with Iron Workers Local 473 and later with the Iron Workers International as a General Organizer. His work left a lasting impact on his trade and community. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Donald was a passionate fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Bears, and the Fighting Illini. Whether he was cheering from the stands or the living room, his team spirit was unmatched.
Donald was the beloved father of Tammy (Paul) Wagner, Patricia (Mark) Pekelnicky, Ed (Liz) Urbauer, Donna Urbauer , Don (Toni) Urbauer, and Joe Urbauer; a devoted grandfather to Brad, Whitney, James, Samantha, Eddie, Alexis, Ty, Brock, and Brayden; and a proud great-grandfather to Nolan, Zac, Emma, and Aiden. He was a cherished brother to Nancy, a loving uncle to many, and a loyal friend and coach to all who knew him.
Donald will forever be remembered as the G.O.A.T.—the Greatest of All Time—to his family, friends, and community.
A visitation for Donald will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
A chapel service will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
A burial will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, 6900 S Cass Ave, Darien, IL 60561.
