Imagene Tillman, nee Chandler, age 94 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Beloved wife of Wayne for 72 years who proceeded her in death exactly two years prior. Loving mother of Cynthia (Peter) Chorak and Christine (Peter) Faustino; cherished grandmother of Dayna (Anthony) Locaciato and Carla Faustino (fiancee of Colm Hughes); and great-grandmother to Francesca Jean Locaciato, who carries on not just her name but strong spirit. In heaven, she is joined by many loved ones, including her parents William and Ina Chandler, and siblings William Chandler, Margaret Jones, and Bruce Chandler. She was known as Nana or Miss Jean to many others who were fortunate enough to love her and be loved by her in return. On occasion, she was known simply as JEANNIE by her beloved Wayne, especially when she lingered too long on the phone.
Born in Ridgely, Tennessee, Jean was working at a soda fountain when she was swept off her feet by her beloved Wayne. They eloped in Mississippi before settling in Chicago to begin their married life. Jean never knew a stranger and was known to befriend anyone she came across - whether a neighbor, a waiter, or a cashier at Kohl’s. Her smile was contagious and she was known to spend hours talking on the phone and writing letters to friends and loved ones near and far. She was a loving, giving woman who always looked for ways to help others, even as her own health declined in later years.
A visitation for Imagene will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm with chapel service to immediately follow. All services will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Marley Oaks Assisted Living, a loving home for seniors where she spent her last six months joyfully making memories alongside new friends.
