

John J. Pitts, 87, avid fisherman, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend to many. Our father worked as a lead chemical operator at Universal Oil Products (UOP). He was happy to share stories or a good joke. If anyone needed a hand, he was the first to offer his. He worked tireless hours to support his family. He believed in all of us and wanted nothing more than our happiness! He adored his family and was present in all our lives.
Beloved husband of the late Phyllis (nee Williams). Loving father of Steven (Christine) Pitts, Sandy (Troy) Kamberos, John E. Pitts (Sonia), Lisa (William) Nye, the late Michael Pitts, Karen (Joseph) Valenti, Kevin (Christine) Pitts, Pamela Ostapkowicz, Deanna Pitts (Jeff), and Scott Pitts. Cherished grandfather of (25): Steven, Jr., Samantha, Andrea, George, Nicholas, Tessa, Sarah, Jose, Maria, Fernando, Alexis, Nigel, Nathan, Jennifer, Brian, Daniel, Nicole, Cory, Keira, Kevin, Jr., Monica, Robert, Kailee, Isabelle, and Emma. Proud great-grandfather of 25. Devoted son of the late John Pitts, Sr. and Irene Zolis. Beloved brother of Richard (late Patricia) Pitts, James (late June) Pitts, David (Gloria) Pitts, and preceded in death by the late Cheryl Byrne.
A visitation and service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Chapel Hills Garden South, 11333 S. Central Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Family and friends gathering from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m.. Interment St. Casimir Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
