Larry Davies Birks, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Larry lived a life devoted to his family, his faith, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
He was the beloved husband of Alice, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. He graduated from Morgan Park High School and proudly served in the United States Army
He is lovingly remembered by devoted wife, Alice; his sons, Larry (Heather), Timothy (Allison) Andrew (Iris); his grandsons, Larry (Riley), Jonathan, Caleb, Lucas, Nathan, and Taylor; his granddaughters, Emily, Rebekah, and Hannah; and his great-granddaughter, Addison. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Sandra), along with many nieces and nephews.
He worked for Illinois Bell for 32 years before beginning a new chapter at Trinity Christian College, where he worked as a maintenance technician until his retirement.
In retirement, Larry enjoyed taking road trips to various destinations and looked forward to his annual visits to Shipshewana. He had a special love for movies and popcorn and was well known for his impressive collection of tools—tools he was sure he “might need some day.”
Larry will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hardworking spirit, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elim Christian School in Larry’s memory.
Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, on Thursday September 24, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm., followed by a Chapel Service at 6:00 pm.
