Lawrence Allen Downes

Lawrence A. Downes, age 74, a Vietnam Veteran and long time resident of Palos Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2022. Lawrence was born January 23, 1948 in Chicago, IL. He was the only child born to William (Bill) and Mary Louise Downes, née Romero.

Lawrence proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1974. The U.S. Army recognized Lawrence for his honorable service with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star specifically for his heroic actions during the Battle of Hamburger Hill with the 101st Airborne Division.

Lawrence retired from Lucent Technologies, having formerly earned his Journeyman status working for Illinois Bell and was a 30 year member of the IBEW Union.

He is survived by his loving children, eldest daughter Kelly Duda and spouse Tim Duda, son Matthew Downes and spouse Michelle Downes and youngest daughter Danielle Downes; 9 grandchildren- Samantha and spouse Joel, Julia, Leighlah, Pauline, Adelle, Paul, Eli, Will, Cameron, two great-grandchildren, his former spouse and mother of his children, Irene Downes.

Lawrence is preceded in passing by his parents.

A graveside service for Lawrence will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022, 11:30a.m. at St. Casimir Cemetery, 4401 W. 111th Street, Chicago, IL 60655.
