Meriellen Anderson, age 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, June 20, 2025. Beloved Wife of Albert for a loving 65 years. Devoted Mother of Paul Anderson (late ex-wife Vivian Baer), Rory and Linda (nee Matual) Anderson, Joe and Lisa (nee Torres) Anderson, and Pamela (Anderson) and husband Roberto Zavala. Proud Grandmother of Renee (Anderson) and husband Ian Knowles, Zachary Anderson, Samantha (Anderson) and husband James DeStefano, Caitlin (Anderson) and husband Robert Breitbarth, Nathan Anderson, Charlotte, Chloe, and Christian Anderson, and Aidan and Mia Zavala; and Great-Grandmother of Layla and Josie DeStefano and Devan Breitbarth. Dear Daughter of the late Paul and Bertha, nee Laverty, Conner. Fond Sister of Paulette (Conner) Rivera and the late Paul Conner and Karen "Lynnie" Conner. Aunt and friend to many loved ones.
Meriellen was born on October 24, 1941 in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Jones Commercial High School and began her career as a CNA and later Unit Secretary at Little Company of Mary Hospital. While she was very proud of her career, she was even more proud to be a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always enjoyed caring for her grandchildren after she retired. Some of Meriellen's favorite things included music as well as cooking and baking, especially for friends, neighbors, and church events, and sports but most especially The Chicago Cubs. She also fondly remembered her time as a Den Mother for the Scouts. Meriellen will be remembered for her wonderful life, her great fervor for life, and for her immense kindness and generosity.
A Visitation for Meriellen will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Ave, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Funeral to follow Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 8:30 AM at the funeral home, continuing with a Chapel Service at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith United Methodist Church Orland Park, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and Shriner's Children's Hospital. Donation instructions can be found below.
