

Meryl Vivian was born September 15, 1926 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Robert and E. May (Gammon) Hill. She was raised on the southwest side of Chicago and graduated from Lindblom High School. Meryl was joined in marriage to James M. Polensky on June 19th, 1948 in Chicago. She worked at Northwestern University as an administrative assistant to the Dean of the Ophthalmology Department of the Medical School and then to the Dean of the Dental School. For her many years of service she received an Honorary Alumni Designation from the University. Meryl served as the church organist for Julia Gay Methodist Church (Chicago, IL) for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, the arts, theater, opera, classical music and attending her grandchildren’s sports events. She was an avid Wildcats fan and really enjoyed their marching band. Meryl’s greatest love was her family, she was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Meryl is survived by her two sons, James D. Polensky of Lockport, IL, David W. (Sharon) Polensky of Hickory Hills, IL; three grandchildren, Jason, Sara and Adam Polensky; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert, sister Ruth and husband, James.
A memorial service celebrating Meryl’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 13350 S. LaGrange Road, Orland Park, IL 60462. 708-448-2939; Pastor, Don Borling.
