Nicholas Emmanuel Nicholaou, 86, passed away December 9, 2017. Beloved son of the late Emmanuel and Angeline Nicholaou, loving father of Elena (George) Nicholaou-Umecker, and Emmanuel (Mike) Nicholaou. Devoted grandfather of Daniel (Ashley) Nicholaou, Lauren Umecker, and Aiden Umecker. Loving brother of George (Gerry) Nicholaou. Loving uncle of Rene (David) Nicholaou-Mizwicki, Elizabeth (Steve) Nicholaou-Fotos, and loving cousin of Cynthia (Paul) Alessis-Yannias, and many cousins. Life-time member of SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Palos Hills, IL, which he served selflessly in so many capacities: Altar Boy Captain; Parish Council member; Youth Advisor; Sunday School teacher; and Festival Assistant. He was a U. S. Army Veteran having served in Korea during the Korean War. Upon his return he devoted himself to Jr./Sr. Greek Orthodox Youth of America. Nick was a devout and committed Orthodox Christian who loved and served the Church. He was also a dedicated member of the brotherhood of AHEPA’s Woodlawn Chapter, and an ardent supporter of Orthodox Christian Laity (OCL), where he served as an early editor of their Forum Newsletter. Nick’s heart and passion was devoted to his family, his church, and his country. Visitation at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home 11333 S. Central Ave. Oak Lawn 60453 on Thursday, December 14th, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Trisagion Service 6 p.m..Family and friends will meet on Friday, at SS.
