Bob was born April 27, 1952 in Chicago, IL to the late Melvin Burklund and his mother who survives, Ann (nee Klein) Burklund.
Bob is the loving husband of forty-one years to Lee (nee Schroeder) Burklund; proud father to Scott (Mary Broniec) Burklund and Erik (Michaela Kramer) Burklund; devoted brother to Linda (Randy) Burklund-Ytterberg; brother in-law to Greg (Sandy) Schroeder, Stewart Schroeder, Kay (David) Portner, Neal Schroeder, Joan (Rick) Kriss; loving uncle to Anne Michelle (Jason) Ricker, Katherine Schroeder, Lindsay Schroeder, Evan Schroeder, Drew Schroeder, Caitlin Schroeder, Mathew Portner, Benjamin (Brittany) Portner, Joseph Portner, Danielle Schroeder-Kane and Jeremy Kane, Gabrielle/Ian Schroeder, Alex Schroeder, Eric Kriss, Alyssa Kriss, Adrianne Kriss, Audrey Kriss, Ryan (Kaitlyn) Ytterberg, Amanda (Derek Budd and a growing number of grand nieces and nephews.
He attended Evergreen Park High School, Valparaiso University, and John Marshall Law School. Bob was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Valparaiso University, and enjoyed great friendships there. Bob proudly served on the Governor Thompson's Committee on Disability for the State of Illinois. He was also the first Board President for Access Living in Chicago. He provided an accounting and bookkeeping service for many years in his offices in Worth and Palos Heights. Bob and his family enjoyed traveling to Rhinelander and Door County, Wisconsin. He was active and enjoyed sailing, fishing and skiing. Subsequent to his accident he enjoyed supporting his sons in those activities. Bob will be remembered for his enigmatic smile and sense of humor.
Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2018 from 3-8 pm at Chapel Hill South Funeral Home (11333 S. Central Ave.; Oak Lawn, IL ). And again from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services Saturday September 15, 2018 at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church (9401 S. Oakley; Chicago, IL 60643). Private family burial will be in Chapel Hill South Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made towards the donor's choice in Robert's name.
