

Theresa Santiago, a beloved mother, grandmother, and matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 100. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on August 26, 1925, Theresa lived a long, faith-filled life grounded in her Catholic beliefs and deep love for her family.
She was married to the late Cesar Santiago for 40 devoted years. Together, they built a strong and loving family foundation that continues to flourish through generations. Theresa was the proud mother of four children: Jose Martinez, Norma Iris Mercado, Jose Miguel Mercado, and Luis Ramon Mercado.
She spent her later years in Geneva, Florida, where she lived with her daughter, surrounded by the love of family. Her legacy lives on through her 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren — each a testament to the strength, warmth, and wisdom she passed down.
Theresa will be remembered for her enduring faith, her unwavering love for her family, and the remarkable century of life she lived with grace and resilience. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Theresa will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Chapel Hill Gardens South Funeral Home, 11333 South Central Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL 60453. A burial will occur Friday, October 24, 2025 at 12:00pm at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums, Evergreen Park, IL 60805.
