Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Dan remained a South Sider at heart throughout his life. Although he and Wendy raised their family in Chicago's western suburbs, his roots never left him. His pride in where he came from shaped his character, his loyalty, and his lifelong devotion to the city he called home.
Dan was the beloved husband of Wendy Nicholson and the devoted father of Jack, Mackenzie, and Delaney. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense pride in being a loving husband and father. He was happiest when spending time with those he loved, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
A lifelong bond trader, Dan dedicated his career to the Chicago Board of Trade, becoming a member in 1984. He loved the fast pace, the friendships, and the unique culture of the trading floor. The Board of Trade was more than his workplace—it was a community that became an important part of his life.
Dan was a passionate Chicago sports fan, with a special place in his heart for the Chicago White Sox. Whether celebrating a big win or enduring a difficult season, he remained a loyal fan through it all.
Dan embraced life with an adventurous spirit. He loved the challenge and excitement of bike racing, found peace and camaraderie on the golf course, and treasured every opportunity to spend time fishing in Wisconsin. His curiosity, energy, and willingness to seek out new experiences inspired those around him and reflected his deep appreciation for living life to the fullest.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, John (Jack) Nicholson, and his brother, Johnny Nicholson.
He will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering love for his family, adventurous nature, and quiet strength. Though he will be profoundly missed, the lessons he taught, the traditions he created, and the love he shared will continue to live on through his wife, children, extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched.
A life well lived leaves an enduring legacy, and Dan's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
