She was born in Chicago to the late Elvia and Arthur Anderson. She was the loving mother of Randy, Shirley, and the late Calvin. Cherished grandmother of 5, great grandmother of 8, and great great grandmother of 1.
In her young years she was a model where she modeled her hands and feet, and she was the first violinist in Argo high school. She moved to Oakbrook Terrace in 1957 with her late husband Jay, at that time it was called Utopía. They built their home next to the first police station which was a little white house with one cell in the living room. In the early 60s, there was a major fire that destroyed the home/station and new location of the police department was chosen.
Ethel was always such a kind loving person, she painted pictures, portraits and murals for many people in the neighborhood. After her son Calvin passed in 1977, Ethel opened up a little Art Nook in Villa Park where she had a little gallery and had gave painting lessons for 20 years.
Ethel was often called the other Martha Stewart! She always cooked up a storm every Sunday and had her relatives over, it was a day of gathering and spending time with family.
Ethel was a very strong woman, for decades, she didn't like to say goodbye, she would say "over and out." She even had her doctors saying that, she was a lot of fun! We will miss our mom so much though I know she's with us every day. I love you so much mom, over and out 🌹❤️🙏
