Fay Elnora Lunsford Widholm, 92, of Elmhurst, IL and Naples, FL died Tuesday, October 25, 2016; beloved wife of the late Robert W. Widholm. Born June 8, 1924 in Berea, Kentucky, she was the third child of eight born to Harrison Lunsford and Carrie Jones. She attended McKell High School, graduating as senior class president and voted the friendliest girl in school.
Fay or “Nini”, as she was lovingly known to her grandchildren, touched for good the lives of everyone she met. When someone was sad, she would use humor to bring a smile to their face. When someone was lonely she would become their friend. She showed love to everyone and gave generously of her means and herself. Even though Fay had red hair and freckles, she became a hostess for TWA. She also was a hostess (flight attendant) recruiter for 26 years for TWA, and loved helping women become their better selves. Fay was active with Clipped Wings, a service organization for retired hostesses. She enjoyed travel, especially with her pilot husband Bob, and traveled to many countries in Europe and Asia, including one trip to circumnavigate the world. Fay was a wonderful story teller of her lifetime adventures. The family wrote a book about her entitled “Love, Laughter, Travel”, three words which describe what her life was all about.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Clements and her husband John of Lombard; son, Roger Widholm, and his wife Cheryl of Glen Ellyn; nine grandchildren (Paul Clements, Sharon Sagers, Julie Despain, Tom Clements, Nancy Smith, Peter Clements, Alison Kautz, Kara Walsh, and Laura Switzer); 23 great grandchildren; sisters Wilma Boyd, Joyce Congrove, Patty Congrove; and predeceased by sister Millie Wise, and brothers Orville Lunsford, Jack Lunsford, and William “Jake” Lunsford .
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Chapel Hill Gardens, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace on Friday, October 28 from 3:00 to 7:00pm and Saturday, October 29 from 10:00 to 11:00am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am.
The family would like to thank the staff at Park Place of Elmhurst for their loving care of Fay.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens following the funeral services.
