Frederick Mayer Jr., 96, U.S. Army Veteran, passed away on October 14, 2026. Devoted Husband of Marilyn, nee Schultz, for a loving 52 years. Caring Father of Lora (Thomas) Szymanski, and Scott. Proud Grandpa (Papa) of Karli Szymanski, and Kimberly, and Kelly. Loving Son of the late Frederick Sr. and Anna. Fond Brother of the late Harley (the late Marion). Uncle and Cousin of many.
Frederick's life can be defined by his loyalty and his dedication to always doing what was right. His loyalty belonged first to his family, always putting their needs and wants first. After family, he was most loyal to his employers, especially IBM. He spent 35 years with IBM, working most proudly as a Field Manager in the Loop territory. He took great pride in his work and was always a model employee. After a year of retirement, he returned to work for Ace Hardware for 28 more years, mostly cutting keys. His attention to detail lent itself well to this tedious task, one he did with great success and pride. When he wasn't working or spending time with his family, Frederick enjoyed passing time by fishing, hunting, and woodworking.
A Visitation for Frederick will take place Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 10:00 AM until the time of Chapel Service at 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd. Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
