

Born on August 28, 1927 in Buffalo, New York to the late George and Antonina Seremak. He and his family overcame the struggles of the Great Depression. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy to serve in World War II. During his enlistment, he served on three aircraft carriers, USS Core initially, USS Bennington, and USS Lake Champlain, where he was a crew member for her maiden voyage in 1945.
After his Navy days, he came to Chicago and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Television Engineering from the American Television Institute of Technology in 1951. He began his career working at Zenith Radio and left to work for Hotpoint in 1956, which was later acquired by General Electric. He had a 31-year career at General Electric as a production engineer for both ranges and refrigeration. His electric switch designs resulted in two patents. He retired in December 1987.
He met his future wife Johanna while attending Moody Bible Church. They married on February 10,1951 and had three children, Jeralyn, Jerome Jr., and Jeffrey.
He was a devoted member of his church. First serving as a Sunday School teacher at the Ukrainian Full Gospel Church which was pastored by his father in-law Peter Dmytrasz during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Later, he was the Sunday School treasurer for Community Gospel Church for over 20 years and then was a greeter for Lighthouse of Hope Church.
He was known for his generosity in giving not only to his church, but family members, and countless charities. His nieces and nephews have fond memories of Uncle Jerry telling corny jokes and giving silver dollars on his visits. He also loved to play chess and go fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife Johanna and older siblings, Genevieve Smosna, Laura Klas, Dorothy Rataj, Mary Wlodcarczyk, and Ted Seremak.
He is survived by his three children, Jeralyn Sorensen (Bob Mazzone), Jerome, and Jeff (Jackie). His six grandchildren, Paul Sorensen (Melainie Chow), Daniel (Abby) Sorensen, Heidi Seremak, Joshua Seremak, Jerome Seremak III, Jacob Seremak, and his wife’s sister Gladys (Rudy) Loeffler and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home & Cemetery, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. A prayer service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home with burial immediately following.
