On November 11, 2022, Joyce Braley, age 83, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother peacefully departed this life surrounded by her family. Joyce was born on April 10, 1939, to Melvin McArthur and Ruby McArthur in LeMars, IA. She grew up in west suburbs of Chicago. In 1956, she met her husband, Hal, and they were married October 27, 1957, and started their family. They were married for 56 years. She held various part-time jobs over the years. While working she was a homemaker and raised her 4 children and was a 2nd mother to many of her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her Children, Doreen Richards, Larry Braley and Connie Austin; Grandchildren, Jacqueline, Paul, Mitch, Natalie, Nicole, Amanda, Eric, Larson and Linnea; 15 Great Grandchildren; and also survived by her sister Jan King.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hal, her son Robert, her brothers Ronald and Gordon.
She loved and excelled at bowling every Tuesday with her bowling team for many years until she suffered a stroke at the age of 63. She looked forward to going south for the winter with Hal to South Padre Island every year. She lived to cook for her family and others. During summer months, Joyce loved cooking over an open fire while outdoors and camping. Holidays were always special in her home and everyone was welcome.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery & Funeral Home, 17w201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, on Tuesday November 29, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday November 30 from 9:00 am to 10 am. Interment for family will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Society of America, Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities (RMHC) or a charity of your choice.
