Lynne (Nickel) Shartle, 82, of Romeoville, Illinois (formerly of South Elgin and Glen Ellyn) died peacefully on February 5th, 2021 surrounded by her family after her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She is proceeded in death by parents, Elmer and Evelyn (Klemm) Nickel, her brother Wayne (Sharon) Nickel and her late husband, John Shartle.

Lynne was many things to many people: she was a teacher, a grandmother, a wife, a mother, sister, and, a friend to all. Lynne was active in her communities and participated in many clubs and activities, including garden club, art lady, girl scouts, boy scouts, Shrine events, water volleyball, tennis… too many to list.

Her specialties included chocolate chip pancakes in the shape of the eater’s favorite animal, creating amazing art projects and costumes, dancing like no one was watching, and loving without fear. She found joy in the songs sung at her church, being involved in any activity or holiday and spending time with her grandchildren. Her abundant energy and spirit was apparent in everything she did and to everyone she met.

Lynne leaves behind her three children Tom (Debbie) Shartle, Robin (Bruce) Przybylski, and Beth (Dan) Stockhausen; her four amazing grandchildren: Connor (Megan) Shartle, Ryden Shartle, Paige Lynne Przybylski, and Harley Quinn Stockhausen; her siblings Kathy (Ken) Urbasek, and Thom (Jody) Nickel as well as her many nieces and nephews.

While her family is grieving, they are recognizing the freedom that Lynne has gained from no longer battling dementia. Such a vibrant personality deserves the greatest celebration of life and while the family has chosen to do an immediate service for a select amount, they are planning a party as joyous as Lynne was when it is safe enough to accommodate for the hugs, dancing, and singing that Lynne would require.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) in memory of Lynne Shartle.

We are also asking that you find time every day to enjoy the little things and find a creative outlet in memory of an amazing woman with an endless amount of creativity and love for the world and all its imperfections.

Funeral services will be held privately at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home and Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace. The funeral service will be live-streamed on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 11:00 am CST via Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home Facebook page. The video will appear prompty at 11am.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapelHillGardensWest.com for the Shartle family.

From my mother, Lillian Haugland, who taught Sunday School with Lynn, to my children, Laine and Zachary Pehta who were taught at Rainbow Place by Lynn, your mom touched our lives in so many positive ways. She will always be remembered as a dedicated, loving teacher of children, a creative force, a kind hearted presence. We were blessed to have been touched by her wonderful life.
Please know that you are all in our hearts and that the memories of one so influential will sustain you and bring you peace. When we think of Lynn, we will hear her laugh and we will smile.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs. Shartle, but relieved she is no longer struggling with dementia. I had countless mornings of her chocolate chip pancakes in my childhood. The house turned into a maze at Halloween was always a fond memory. The wooden Christmas ornaments she painted for gifts every year were always something I looked forward to. She came up with lots of fun projects and field trips as our Girl Scout leader back in the 1980's. We had many trips to the lake, and had great times (I'm sure Beth has the pictures). She was full of love and laughter and it was hard to not smile when you were around her. She will be missed! Sending hugs virtually to the family! xoxo

Lynne was such a dynamic woman. When Ray and I joined Faith Lutheran Church (Glen Ellyn) 44 years ago, we had no children in the Sunday School, but I helped out one year in one of the classes. That is when I witnessed Lynne's devotion to all who were involved in the Sunday School program: leaders, parents, and children.
Lynne was present in many facets of our church activities, so we had several chances to interact with her throughout her years at Faith.
We pray that her family is able to recall many enjoyable moments spent with her as they grieve her passing.
Most sincerely,
Carol and Ray Kaspar
