Mohammed Ahmed

March 30, 2021

My father, Mohammed Aziz "Munir" Ahmed, was the eldest son of Mohammed Khaleel Ahmed and Tajunnessa Begum born in Bangalore, India in 1945. He studied hard throughout his younger years in both secular and Islamic studies. After obtaining a Bachelor's in Engineering from Usmania University, Hyderabad, he came to the U.S. to pursue higher education in 1971. Ultimately, he found an engineering job in Foote-Jones in Chicago and he settled there. He married Lena Coleman in 1974 and they had two children, Mohammed Ghulam Ahmed and Tajena Ahmed. He then worked at Verson Allsteel, helping design the machines that in turn were used to make more machines. He later married Hamida Hayat and had a child Fouzia Ahmed. After venture capitalists destroyed Verson, my father focused on driving a cab that he had won from the City of Chicago. Throughout it all, my father immersed himself in the teachings of the Promised Messiah and the history of Ahmadiyya . He lived a good, wholesome, Islamic life and helped me withstand the vicissitudes of life on the Southside of Chicago so that I did not fall victim to societal pitfalls. He took care of his family and several brothers in the Ahmadiyya Jamaat. He leaves behind 2 brothers, Mohammed Rafi Ahmed and Mohammed Vicar Ahmed; a sister, Birgees Kauser; a wife, Hamida Hayat; 2 children, mentioned above; and 2 grandkids, Malayka and Mohaymin Ahmed. May God protect his soul.
