Paul Thomas Jones, 79, of LaGrange Park, passed away on May 1. Born July 3, 1935 in Newport News, Virginia, he is survived by his beloved wife, Donna (nee Johnson); daughters Brenda Cramer (Terry) and Lori King (Kevin); and grandchildren Michael, Chelsea, and Timothy Cramer, and Colin and Brian King. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lois Jones, and a sister, Ann Moffatt. A metallurgical engineer, he was a graduate of Virginia Tech and served with the Air Force as a critical skills specialist. After years working for various railroads, Paul started Railtech and Associates and, later, BLT and Associates. He was most well known in the industry for his contribution to the technology of the track geometry car and for pioneering the development of explosive hardening of special trackwork. Though his ideas were frequently regarded as unorthodox, he won the respect of top railroad executives throughout his career with his strong drive and meaningful goals. He was known for his larger than life persona and sense of humor. Paul enjoyed traveling with Donna, and each of his grandchildren knew they were his favorite. Visitation will be held on May 16 at 10:00 at Chapel Hill Gardens West, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oakbrook Terrace, with a memorial service at 11:00 and luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Vitas Healthcare, 580 Waters Edge, Suite 100, Lombard, IL 60148 would be appreciated. Funeral info: 630-941-5860.
