Aaron forwarded Paul's obituary to me, we were up in Door County and I missed the sad news that one of my favorites in the railroad industry had passed.  It was  my privilege to know and be associated with Paul. I always enjoyed his visit when I saw him at Union Pacific and Kansas City Southern.
I trust the Lord has comforted you and your family in his loss.

  I served with Paul in the Air Force more than 50 years ago. We were in very frequent telephone contact, and occasional personal contact over the decades that followed.

  Paul was one of the smartest and most practical engineers I ever met.  He could give you an instantaneous solution to any engineering or metallurgical problem.

  Paul had great common sense, and he could always see the motivations of those he encountered. The world will be less well off without Paul. May he rest in peace.

Paul was a friend and good acquaintance  from the Sandhouse Gang.   I will  miss his humor, smile and wealth of industry  knowledge and contacts.

Brilliant engineer, progressive thinker, good sense of humor, solid friend - this is my remembrance of Paul.  We lost a giant of the rail industry and mentor to many.  I'm sure right now he is straightening out that big roundhouse in the sky!  My heartfelt sympathy to his family.

Dear Donna & family,  My time with Paul was usually brief as he was visiting my father and discussing applications / technology in our rapidly changing business.  Paul was a master of bringing people and companies together for mutual benefit.  He helped me many times in my efforts in some cases putting much effort into my cause.  I am blessed to have learned from his insight and vision.

After my father's death when I was 10 years old, Uncle Paul's example, and support was there to help me move through a turbulent adolescence and young adulthood to become a successful mechanical engineer/ engineering manager.  I will always be grateful for his encouragement and guidance. 
 
As I reflect on our times together, I cherish many important memories and lessons Uncle Paul was able to impart:

Like how to properly load and shoot a Marlin 30-30.
How to charm Virginia's finest into issuing a warning for 85 in a 55 mph zone.
Selling TP can be a lucrative business on any hunting trip. 
How to catch fish in a 12 foot boat on 8 foot seas.
There no problem that a good game of cards can't fix.
It's not what you know or even who you know.  It's knowing who you need to know. 
 
But the most important lesson:

There are no strangers in life, only friends you haven't met yet.

What can I say about Paul Jones who I met over 20 years ago because my brother married his daughter Brenda. Paul was a man with strong convictions and I respected that about him. When ever the families were together I would listen to Paul and I always felt I had learned from his wisdom. I will miss Paul although I will cherish my memories of him.

This is indeed a great loss to many, Paul has touched a significant number of people from all walks of life. I will miss his meetings and luncheons with me and others  at the Jamaican Consulate in Chicago. Some people make the world a better place by having been in it. Paul Jones was one of those rare individuals.

Dear Donna and family,  Although I became a friend of Paul later in his life, these last 20 years of knowing him have been a wonderful experience.  I came from a railroading family and Paul made several trips to Garrett Indiana and spent time with my dad and other railroaders in town.  Paul attedned the funeral of my father and through his RR connections had a CSX engine blow for a crossing at 11 AM at the start of the service.We all thought that my dad was arriving in heaven on time. My true wish is that Paul T will be arriving in heaven on time as a good Railroading Man.I am so happy that he bacame a good friend and I will cherish his memory for years to come."I'm trying to tell you" we have lost a good man.  My love to all who had Paul as a friend and he had many and I am fortunate to have been one of them.  Aaron Smith  Garrett Indiana.
