Ruth Shone, nee Gerzevske, passed away on September 25, 2026 at the age of 93. Beloved Wife of George for a loving 70 years. Devoted Mother of Rebecca and Sara (Greg) Shuler. Proud Grandma of Rachael Shuler and Zachary (Terra) Shuler. Dear Daughter of the late Paul and Ella Gerzevske. Fond Sister of Millie (Haorld) Burrow, and the late Donald and David (Thu) Gerzevske. Aunt and Cousin of many.
Ruth’s great loves in life were first for God and then her beloved husband and her family. Her life was defined by service and teaching children about Jesus.
Ruth was born on August 29, 1933 to the late Ella (Lick) and Paul Gerzevske in Faribault, Minnesota. She attended Concordia Teacher’s College in River Forest, IL where she met her beloved husband, George Shone of St. Louis, MO. They were married on June 30, 1956. They were blessed with two daughters, Rebecca and Sara(Greg). She enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and when they were in school she taught Kindergarten. She delighted in her grandchildren Rachael and Zach Shuler.
Ruth was a faithful servant of the Lord and was active in her church. She taught Sunday school for many years, actively participated in VBS weeks and was involved in the LWML. She took care of her mother-in-law Mildred Shone when she came to live with them for many years until her death. After becoming empty nesters, George and Ruth opened their home to host various people who needed a short term place to stay over the years. She filled her time with various volunteer opportunities including working with two immigrant women as an ESL mentor and volunteering at the Bronco Thrift Store in Melrose Park which supported Walther High School.
She delighted in Fall Foliage and Spring flowers, cattails, pussywillows and toboggan rides. She also loved cats and enjoyed watching birds at her bird feeder. As she developed dementia she remained pleasant, grateful and quick to smile to her caregivers.
A Visitation for Ruth will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church-Kimberly Way, 1101 Kimberly Way, Lisle, IL 60532. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, 17W201 Roosevelt Road Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181.
