Sandra S. Moore

February 5, 1935 – April 29, 2026
Obituary of Sandra S. Moore
IN THE CARE OF

Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home & Cemetery

Sandra Stewart Moore, 91, of Oak Brook, IL, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, surrounded by her family and devoted caretakers in the comfort of her own home.

Sandra was born on February 5, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Lourena and Clayton Stewart. She graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she was a proud member of the Chi Beta Chapter of Chi Omega sorority.

Following her college graduation, Sandra worked for The Milk Foundation of Illinois, where she championed health and nutrition education, partnered with teachers and students, and helped distribute grade‑level educational materials supporting school milk programs throughout the Chicagoland area.

Sandra met her future husband, Richard "Dick" Moore, on a blind date in 1958, and they were married just ten months later. Together, they raised their three children in Richard’s hometown of Elmhurst, IL, and moved to Oak Brook, IL, in 1993, where they enjoyed more than three decades of parties with friends and frequent family gatherings and milestone celebrations.

Sandra had a great sense of style and was known for her signature combination of Eileen Fisher outfits and colorful Talbot loafers. She had a keen eye for interior design and regularly visited the Gold Coast, Hyde Park, Oak Brook and Old Town Art Fairs with her husband, collecting beautiful pieces that they lovingly displayed throughout their home.

A music lover, Sandra enjoyed a wide variety of pop and jazz music and held a lifelong fondness for Tony Bennett, her favorite artist. She was an avid piano player who could read music fluently and took lessons later in life to improve her skills.

Sandra is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard Moore; her son, Richard Moore Jr. of Chicago IL; her daughter, Susan (Moore) Maier (Peter) of Omaha, NE; her son, Robert Moore (Alicia) of Elmhurst, IL; and her six grandchildren, Ryan, Melissa, John, Jennifer, Olivia, and Ava. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack Stewart.

The family extends sincere love and gratitude to Sandra’s wonderful caretakers, Kathy, Rose, Doree, Gina, and May, whose skillful care and unwavering compassion sustained Sandra throughout her final years.

A celebration of Sandra’s life will take place later this summer.
