Barbara June Green

Barbara June Green (Guynes) was born on February 26, 1938, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. It was the same hospital where President John F. Kennedy was taken after he was shot, and Barbara always considered that a small part of her claim to fame.

Although born in Texas, Barbara was raised in Redondo Beach, California. She graduated with the Class of 1957 from Redondo Union High School, where she was classmates with the Smothers Brothers—another fact she enjoyed sharing.

During her teenage years, Barbara worked at the Fox Theatre in Redondo Beach. It was there that she first noticed a young man who reminded her of actor Jack Lemmon. As it turned out, he was friends with her brother, Lawrence. The two had served together in the National Guard, and Lawrence eventually introduced them.

Barbara and Richard Virgil Green fell in love and were married on November 2, 1957.

When they were first introduced, Richard smiled and said, "Hello, my name is Dick." From that day forward, "Dick" was what Barbara called him. The only exception was when she was upset—then he became "Richard" again.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben Roscoe Guynes and Barbara "Pete" Guynes; her husband, Richard Virgil Green of North Fork, California; her daughter, Holly Green of North Fork, California; and her grandson, Richard "Rizo" Green.

Barbara is survived by her son, Kelly Green of North Fork, California; her daughter-in-law, Della Mae Green; and her grandson, Kelly Green II of North Fork, California, and his wife, Shacola Green. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as "GG": Kelly Lee Green III and Kaia Mae Green.

Barbara and her family moved to North Fork, California, in August 1976. Although she spent nearly 50 years as a resident of North Fork, her heart always remained in Redondo Beach. She was proud of her roots, cherished the rich history of her hometown, and treasured being a graduate of Redondo Union High School. Her parents, grandparents, and several other family members are laid to rest at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.

Barbara devoted her life to caring for others. Family members affectionately referred to her as the family "gofer" because she was always running errands or helping someone in need. Her greatest friend was her mother, and the bond they shared was unmatched.

Barbara passed away peacefully at her home in North Fork on July 23, 2026, at the age of 88, due to complications of congestive heart failure.

She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her willingness to help anyone who needed her, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
