Harry Lynn Sample

January 4, 1943February 16, 2021

Harry Lynn Sample was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 4, 1943. He grew up in Glendale, Arizona. He worked in his family business as a plumber at a very young age. In November 1963 he joined the Navy and was assigned to the Seabee’s Construction Battalion. After meeting through mutual friends in Port Hueneme and only knowing each other for a few short weeks, he married Janis Sue Gustafson on April 23, 1964. They began their married life in Morocco, Africa where they lived for a couple of years. Lynn was then stationed in South Viet Nam and Janis returned to Kansas pregnant with their first child. Five weeks before their daughter was born, Lynn’s bunker was hit with mortar fire and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Lynn met his daughter for the first time when she was 2 months old. After the service, Lynn, his wife and daughter moved to Napa, California. Lynn began a career in Pipefitting and was a 50+ year member of the Local 343 Plumber’s and Steamfitters union. Lynn’s second child was born in 1971 and both children were raised in Napa. Lynn “retired” in 2000 and moved from Napa to Yosemite Lakes Park in Coarsegold, CA. During his retirement, he enjoyed being outside, fishing, being on his tractor, and spending time with the love of his life, Jan. With Lynn you always knew how he felt and where you stood. He was stubborn, opinionated and loved Jesus. He left earth too soon and will be deeply missed. Lynn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan; daughter Janis Lyn Cricket Koch (Bill); son Travis Bernarr Sample (Romona); Grandchild Jordan Harris (Alissa), Great-Grandchildren Eleonor & Jude; Grandchildren: Chase Sample, Ryan Koch, Hannah Sample, Rebekah Koch.

My memories of Lynn are filled with laughter. He gave the best hugs and when he did you knew how much he cared about you. I remember every birthday for my parents, Jan and Lynn and myself we would all go to the Black Angus to celebrate. He also would never let you forget his birthday starting at Thanksgiving every time I saw him he had to tell that his birthday was January 4th and don't forget it. Everytime I think of Lynn I know it well bring a smile to my face. He's in heaven walking the streets of gold, I loved him and will miss him very much. Jan and family your in my thoughts and prayers at this hard time, love you all.

Dear Jan and family,
My heart breaks for you this side of Heaven, because I know how much you all loved Lynn and how greatly he will be missed. So thankful that it doesn't end there though and that we have the Hope of knowing we will see him again. I have been thinking back on memories over the years and remembering how Lynn was always making people laugh with either some kind of joke or out of the blue comment. I always looked forward to family events when we all came together and caught up on life. I remember my mom and dad speaking so joyful about the times they spent on the road together with Jan and Lynn, quite often celebrating their years of marriage together. Although it's been a long time since we have all been together, I am sadly missing you all more today. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you move forward in the days ahead. May God be your peace and comfort and your family be your strength as you walk through this together. Love you all.
