Laura Jean Barnes

Laura Barnes (DeGarmo) born on July 27, 1953, passed away peacefully in her home in Ahwahnee, CA on 2/9/2025 after a long fight with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Laura was born in Santa Monica, CA to Norman and Janice DeGarmo.

As a Santa Monica girl she spent a lot of her time on the beach enjoying the sand and surf. Laura also loved camping with her parents and two brothers, four wheeling and going to Bass Lake and hanging out with friends in Ojai.

Santa Monica is where she would meet her soon-to-be husband Chris while on a four-wheel drive trip to Red Rock Canyon. They married in January 1974 and bought a home in Ahwahnee, CA where they raised their two kids Jamie and Blake.

Laura was a stay-at-home mom until the kids were old enough and she went to work at Mountain Comforts part time with Chris. Here she stayed for 35 years until she retired, and MS started affecting her even more.

Laura loved spending her vacation time going to antique stores and thrift stores. When she was on the hunt for something there wasn’t a store she’d pass. She also had a love for the Hallmark channel. There wasn’t a day you’d walk into the house, and it wasn’t on. Laura enjoyed drinking coffee on her back porch in the mornings and enjoying the sunshine and flowers she planted every spring.

Laura will be missed by her children Jamie Wright (Shane) and Blake Barnes (Caitlin). Grand children Kayla, Kelsey, Cayden, Willow and her younger brother Neal DeGarmo.

She is preceded in death by her husband Chris, parents and older brother Stephen.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Until we join her, we will carry her memories with us.
