RC was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas to parents Aaron Lawrence and Effie Jane, who both preceded him in death. RC was the last living sibling of his family of four brothers and three sisters. In 1943, the “young man went West” at the age of twelve with sixteen family members in one old pickup truck. He quit school before graduating and went to work to help support the family. RC was a jack-of-all-trades and worked at various companies; A Blass Company washing gallon jugs, Sunmaid Raisins packing raisins, Pinedale Cotton & Compress running a switch engine, Montgomery Wards assembling and delivering farm machines, San Joaquin Rock & Sand driving truck, Clovis Ready Mix delivering cement, Madera County Deputy Sheriff Department in Oakhurst, and cowboying for Lester Bisset in Raymond. RC was also part-owner of several business; Sherrell Brothers Tree Service, Sherrell Brothers Pump Service, and Sherrl Brothers Lumber Company. RC would also train horses for riding and he had an equine breeding service for his applaloosa “Bandaid”.

RC married Esther Louise Lorenson in 1950 and had two children; Vernon Lynn, Whom they lost in 1993, and Pamela Marie. RC and Esther spent their years together raising their two children, traveling, riding horses, camping, fishing, boating and waterskiing, raising farm animals and growing a few crops. RC and Esther divorced in 1972. He was then married to Ruby Taylor in 1975 until her death in 2007. RC and Ruby enjoyed riding horses, doing their cowboy adventures, going to and having yard sales, hunting and traveling. He was then married to Philomene Schultz in 2012 until her death in 2019 and they enjoyed resing cattle and goats, going to horse shows and having friends over.

RC loved riding horses, team roping and doing his cowboy thing. He also loved to hunt, mainly for deer, but also for bear. RC loved to tell about his adventures to family and friends.

RC is survived by his; daughter Pamela Sherrell Morris and her husband Arthur of Selma, CA, five grandchildren; Misty Dart of Wake Forest, NC, Scott Sherrell of Youngsville, NC, RC Sherrell of Oakhurst, Melissia Sherrell of Resaca, GA, and Kyle Sherrell of Red Bluff, CA. His also survived by twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren with one on the way. RC loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Unfortunately, he never met any of his great-great grandchildren, but did see pictures of them. He would always have some kind of candy to give them.

RC loved living in the mountains since 1971, which included Oakhurst, CA Applegate, OR, Mariposa, CA, and Catheys Valley, CA. The last two years of RC’s life, he lived independently in Catheys Valley just like he wanted, going to breakfast almost every day to get some “biscuits and gravy” and hanging out with all his buddies. RC had some wonderful friends, and devoted family and he will be “Forever loved and missed” and will be “always in our hearts”.
