Mr. Hersey - Harris

A celebration of his Mr. Harris' life will occur at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024 at New Hope Church Of God In Christ located at 5763 Walnut St in the city of Oakland, CA 94605.

Mr. Hersey Harris was born October 8, 1938, to the parents Roosevelt and Luella (Dickens) Harris in Ruebeline, Louisiana. He was the third child of eleven children.

He attended school and graduated from Central High in Natchitoches, Louisiana in May of 1958. Due to a lack of opportunities for advancement, he relocated to San Diego, California, where he lived with his friend Eugene Brooks and his mother. In 1962, he came to Oakland, California and eventually began working for AC Transit in the Maintenance Department. Later he became a bus operator and remained with the company for over 36 years.

While attending House of Prayer Church Of god In CHrist in Oakland, California, he gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and served God for the remainder of his time on earth.

Hersey met his wife karen Allen when she bagan riding his bus on Fruitvale Avenue. They married in May 1967 and to this union two sons were born.

In 1974, Hersey was called into the ministry and was licensed under the late Elder Birthon Watson at True Holiness Church of God In Christ. He attended the Charles harrison Mason Institute and received a degree in pastoral theology in 1977. In 1978, he became an ordained Elder, under the late Bishop S. R. Martin. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Y. P. W. W. Teacher and Unity District Y. P. W. W. Chairperson. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent and the 6AM Prayer Leader at New Hope Church of God In Christ.

He was a wonderful father and surrogate father to three nephews and a nice.

He will truly be missed.
