Jermisa Lanay Perry, lovingly referred to as Misa, was born on June 15, 1988, in Oakland,
California, to her parents Greta Knox and Jerry Perry. From a young age, Jermisa embraced
Christianity, which shaped her life with faith, compassion, and a sense of purpose.
She completed her primary education through the Oakland Unified School District and graduated
from Oakland High School in June 2006.
She later pursued higher education and obtained her
bachelor’s degree in Child Development from San Jose State University, graduating with the
class of 2011.
Driven by a sincere affection for children, she pursued a career as a preschool teacher at
various early childhood education centers, where her tenderness, patience, and
happiness positively impacted countless young lives.
Jermisa had a lifelong love for sports. She began playing T-ball as a young child and
continued with basketball throughout her school years, playing from elementary through
high school, with her final games at Oakland High School. During her time at San José
State University, she chose to focus on her academic and professional goals.
Although she stepped away from playing sports, Jermisa remained a passionate fan of the
Golden State Warriors and Oakland Raiders, often attending live games and enjoying sports
with family and friends. She also had a strong passion for music, celebrating life through live
concerts, festivals, and gatherings with loved ones. A true adventurer at heart, she relished
any opportunity to explore new cuisines and cultures, making travel—both domestically
and internationally—one of her greatest pleasures.
Jermisa had a uniquely vibrant personality, quiet yet playful and lively in spirit. Her laughter was contagious, spreading happiness to
everyone she encountered.
She had a deep affection for her family, valuing the special connections she had with her nieces and nephews.
