

Robert Fryer, age 87, peacefully departed this life on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and family. He was born on October 21, 1938, in Dothan Alabama, to Essie and Ida Mae Fryer, both of whom preceded him in death.
At an early age, Robert confessed his faith in Christ in Panama City, Florida, a foundation that remained strong throughout his life. He attended Rosenwald High School, where he excelled in both baseball and basketball, demonstrating his lifelong passion for sports. Later, he continued and completed his education at Adult Day High School in Oakland, California.
In 1956, Robert proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably as an aircraft mechanic. During his service, he earned a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1959.
It was during his time in California that Robert’s life changed forever. In 1958, he was introduced to Genara Barnes by her brother, Bennie Barnes, a fellow Navy serviceman. What began as a simple dinner invitation at her family home in Richmond, California, blossomed into a loving relationship. Robert and Genara were united in marriage in 1959 at Davis Chapel C.M.E., and went on to build a beautiful life together that spanned 66 devoted years.
Robert joined Genara in fellowship at St. Peter C.M.E. Church in El Cerrito, California, where he became an active member and later joined the Men’s Ministry. Grounded in faith and family, Robert was a loving husband, father, and mentor.
From their union, they were blessed with three children: Bobby Fryer, Tina Fryer (who preceded him in death), and Rodney Fryer. Robert took immense pride in his family, especially in supporting his children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits and personal achievements.
Roberts work career started at General Motors (Fremont) before transferring to Naval Air Station (Alameda). He retired from Naval Air as an Equipment Cleaner Supervisor and trainer for Aircraft located on the base.
A true sports enthusiast, Robert was a loyal fan of the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Dodgers, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs. As President of the Sophisticated 10 Social Group, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, including cruises, bus trips to Reno, playing dominoes and a variety of card games.
Robert leaves to cherish his beautiful and devoted wife of 66 years, Genara Fryer; two sons, Bobby Fryer (Debra) and Rodney Fryer (Tanya) and daughter, Tina Fryer (deceased).
Siblings – Roberta Williams (sister-deceased), John Fryer (brother deceased), Carrie Green (sister deceased), Ivera Guilford and Dorthy Banks.
Grandchildren – Darnell Fryer, Dominique Fryer (Heather), Beau Fryer (Brittney), Jason Fryer, Ebony Horton, Ronnie Green, Shai’La Stiggers, Sah’Neya Fryer, Rodney Fryer II and Syd’Nee Fryer.
Great Grandchildren – Aniyah Harvey, Suraiya Fryer, Dinerro Fryer, Rowan Fryer, Daveau Fryer, Nova Fryer, Olias Fryer, Brixxton Fryer, Lennox Fryer, Onyx Fryer, Kaia Fryer.
Robert was surrounded by a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory
He will be remembered for his faith, sense of humor, and his passion for bringing people together. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of time spent with his family.
