Roy Lee Glaze was the eighth and last child born to Swimmer and Murlean Glaze in on the outskirts of Homer, LA.
He was the second child, other than James not delivered at home but instead, a hospital in Shreveport, LA.
In 1956, the desire for a better life, prompted the family to move to Oakland, CA where they were reunited with other family members.
Roy was educated in the Oakland Unified Public School District starting at Prescott, Cole and MLK elementary schools. He then continued at Lowell Middle School, James Madison Middle School, and graduated from Castlemont High School in 1970.
As an adult, Roy was in a hurry to get his life started. He was seen as being a serious young man with a no nonsense demeanor. He had a variety of jobs and careers in his life such as, Post Office Clerk, Bank Teller, Mail Carrier, Newspaper Office Clerk, Forklift Operator, and Warehouseman.
The love of God was instilled in Roy at a young age and church was the central activity for his family, primarily, because both of his grandfathers were pastors. His three big sisters even traveled around different church events in the area, ministering in song and praise, known as the Glaze Sisters. Roy would follow their example and sing with his older brothers. It was 40 years later that he started the Glaze Brother's quartet.
Roy always lived by the mantra "You Treat Me Right, You'll Be A Friend For Life!"
Those that preceded him to the throne are his parents, sisters: Emma Jean Burns, Dolly Jean King, and Alma Mae Catron; brothers: Swimmer, Jr. and Johnnie C. Glaze; uncles: Emmitt and Jimmy Copes; an aunt, Azzie Lee Weathers; and a special person in his life, Glendella Patterson.
Roy leaves to mourn his passing: brothers, Jessie and James Glaze; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Glaze and Roberta Glaze; his special love, Marie McCoy; an honorary brother, Willie Pitts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rest Well Baby Brother!!!
