Alvin Nathaniel McGhie was born on November 23, 1935, in the Parish of Portland, Jamaica, West Indies, to Alexander and Isadora Meggie. Alvin was the youngest of eight children, and is preceded in death by all but one sibling, Stanley, his older brother. Alvin moved from his parents’ home to Kingston, where he met Hyacinth, his wife of 56 years. They were married November 28, 1962. The union between Alvin and Hyacinth produced two sons, Ripton and Gregory (Dave). In December 1968, Alvin migrated to the United States. He lived in Brooklyn, NY for a short while, then moved to Hempstead, NY (Long Island) to raise his family. Alvin worked tirelessly at Beth Abraham Hospital in New York until his retirement.
Alvin and his family loved to travel. During his lifetime, he visited many countries. Alvin grew up in a Christian home. He loved the Lord, and it showed in his actions and his warm demeanor. He was a friend, a brother, and a father to many. Upon retirement, Alvin moved to Ocala, FL with his wife Hyacinth where he became very active in his community, becoming part of the neighborhood watch. He would travel to nursing homes, and private homes to visit the sick and shut-in bringing prayer, and his infectious smile and sense of humor. Alvin loved his family dearly and looked forward to family gatherings. He would spend his time telling stories and making everyone laugh. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Alvin leaves behind, his Wife Hyacinth; Sons Ripton and Gregory; Daughters-in-law Nelda and Raquel; Brother Stanley. Surrogate Sisters: Valencia Williams, Alice Ford; Sisters-in-law, Yvonne; Rachel Margorieanna, Paulette, Karleen, and Barbara; Brothers in Law, Anthony and Lenworth; Grandchildren: Christopher; Justin, Stephanie, Nathaniel and Gregory; Great-Granddaughter, Melani: Nieces: Avis (Annette) Morgan; Linnette (Lin) Thomas; Narisse Meggie-Brown; Camille Meggie-Langley; Careen Meggie-Gordon; Novelette, Felicia, Tishana, Jazmine, Tasha; Nephews: George Valentine; Auvil (Derrick) Raymond Linton Meggie; Kevin, Andre, and Daquan Murphy.
He also leaves behind countless grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
