To Dear Auntie Beryl, one of nine children born to Edward and Mary Gouveia in Guyana (formerly British Guiana) on 21st November 1921, named Beryl Daphne Gouveia. This was the real beginning of the Gouveia clan as we know it today. Auntie Beryl was strong and tenacious and these characteristics enabled her to be independent and determined in living much of her long life on her own. She became the source of invaluable information on the history and the make up of the Gouveia clan and all the associated families that have been connected over the last four generations. She became the true matriarch and glue that brought many of our cousins and families together. Auntie Beryl gave us anectdotal information on our heritage for which we will be eternally grateful and often reminded us of the fact that she was the only sibling left and we had better look after her. I treasure the short experience she lived with my sister and I in London. She was great fun and encouraged us to be mischievious. Auntie Beryl graced our shores in the UK again three times over the last twelve years to attend the weddings of our three children, Nathan, Matthew and Esther. Remembering that she was already an octogenarian and managed to attend each wedding at the ages of 86, 88 and 90 respectively, all the way from Florida. That was impressive and we will treasure those moments forever. We will all miss you auntie. You will be forever in our memories as we were blessed to have you as an integral part of our extended family. Rest in Peace auntie Beryl. You deserve some rest now. Love you, love you. Carl and Jane Gouveia, my sister Jan and her son Conrad, our three children and all of my cousins. x
