Charles Wayne Hood

C. Wayne Hood, 73, of Ocklawaha, Florida passed away peacefully Sunday, October 29th 2017 with his family, minister and friends present. Wayne was born on October 13th, 1944 in Totowa Borough, NJ to Charles William & Shirley (O’Brien) Hood. Wayne graduated from Passaic Valley High School class of 1962 and went on to earn his Masters degree in Higher Education Administration from New York University, NY.

Wayne dedicated his life to federal and private educational loan sales and administration. Highlights of his career include: Director of Financial Aid at Johns Hopkins University; Senior Vice President/National Sales Director of Florida Federal Savings Bank, St Petersburg, FL; Vice President/Affinity Loan Sales at USA Group, Indianapolis, IN; Vice President/Regional Sales Director of Chemical Bank, St Petersburg, FL; Bureau Chief/Bureau of Student Financial Assistance at the Florida Department of Education, Tallahassee, FL; and Senior Vice President/Manager of Education Loan Center at PNC Bank, Pittsburgh, PA. Wayne served his country with an honorable discharge from the US Army Reserve. He was active member of the Ocklawaha United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sylvia Steelman Hood, his son Dr. Christopher Hood (Dr. Danielle Hood) of Largo, Florida, a step-daughter, Beverly L. Gray (Jason) of Ocala, Florida, 4 grandsons Christian and Connor Hood, and Cade and Brady Gray, his mother Shirley O’Brien Hood, and a sister Iris De Rosa (Jim) of Murphy, North Carolina. Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Charles William Hood.

Visitation will be 10:00am on Monday, November 13th at the Ocklawaha United Methodist Church in Ocklawaha, Florida with a celebration of life ceremony beginning at 11:00am.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Ocala Regional Medical Center NICU for the compassion and care they provided.
