Charles Wymond Potter

Charles (Charlie) Wymond Potter, age 103, passed away in Ocala on Monday, December 3, 2018. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Berg and husband John; son, Charles Potter Jr.; granddaughter, Amy Gibboney and husband Nathan; grandson, Stephen Berg and wife Jackie; great-grandchildren, Madison and Nathan Gibboney; Charlotte, Luke, and Caroline Berg; nephew Will Staples and wife Astrid; and niece Jane Daugherty. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Betty and two grandsons, John F. Berg III and Chester Aaron Berg II. Charlie was born June 30, 1915, in Madison, Indiana, to Virginia and Herman Potter. He was raised in Madison and after high school attended Hanover College. Following college he took a job in Detroit, MI where he met and married Betty to whom he was happily married for 71 years. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he and Betty lived in Detroit where Charlie worked at Ford Motor as a Chemical Engineer. Upon retirement they moved to Ocala to be near family. Charlie was actively involved in the community, including the Sons of the American Revolution, the Hubbell Family Historical Society, the Ocala Civic Theatre, the Huguenot Society, and Friends of the Library. Charlie, who never had a bad word for anyone, loved life and family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed exercising, including working out at the YMCA and playing tennis. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and doing genealogy. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
