Dorothy May Thorne Dettmer

Dorothy May Thorne Dettmer, 92, of Ocala, FL went to her Heavenly Home from Marion House Care Facility on September 12, 2010. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 16, 1917 to the late Eugene Leroy Thorne and Pearl Mercer. Also preceding her in death were her cherished husband, Fred Dettmer; two sons,Bobby Leroy Elias & Richard Lee Elias; a sister Helen Thorne Holtz and two brothers, Floyd Lee Thorne & Robert Leroy Thorne. Her memories will be treasured by a daughter, Roberta Ann (Marvin) Wells of Dallas, GA; and two sons, Raymond E. (Joanne) Elias of Stuart , FL & William S. (Theresa) Burton of Ocala, FL; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a large extended circle of friends and family including many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dettmer moved to South Florida with her husband Fred in the late 1950’s where she enjoyed doing ceramics and playing her organ before his retirement. After retirement, they joined several RV Clubs and traveled the country in an RV with her toy poodles to visit friends, family and grand children; which she continued for several years after his death. More recently, she read her Bible daily and every Fall rooted for her adored Miami Dolphins. She is known to have always remembered Family and Friend’s birthday or anniversary by sending a card or hand-written note.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 2:00PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala, Florida. Donations in Memory of Dorothy Dettmer may be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 S.W. 34th Avenue, Ocala, FL 34474.
