Enid migrated to the Bronx, New York in the mid 1950's where she met and married Allan Vassell and remained in the union until death parted them on August 17, 2018 after 63 years of marriage.
Enid was an ambitious, bright , intelligent, energetic and self-directed woman who knew what she wanted and did not settle for the domestic job she held. Enid reached for the stars, to be the best she could be. Education was the key to her success She attended and graduated from Wadleigh High School where she received her academic diploma.
Enid climbed the ladder from being a nurses' aide to become a public health nurse, nursing instructor and an NYC Board of Education teacher. Enid attended the following colleges: Manhattan Community College, Helene Fuld College of Nursing, Hunter College and Columbia University where she received her Master's Degree and was a Doctoral student. She was a member of several organizations including Kappa Delta Phi, New York State Nurses' Association and the American Public Health Association. She also received numerous awards, certificates of appreciation and merit.
Enid worked with the NY Department of Hospitals as a Registered Nurse and a Public Health Nurse. She worked at Jane Addams H.S. as a Nurse Instructor and finally worked at the NYC Department of Education as a teacher because she loved working with the youth.
Enid was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had many friends who loved her as she loved them. Enid retired in 1998 to Florida to be near her native home of Jamaica. She loved life and lived life. Unfortunately her health began failing and the Lord took her home on August 17, 2018.
Enid leaves to cherish her memories, devoted husband Allan, two daughters, Sybil and Monica, one stepson, Bromley, four grandchildren, Eric and his wife Hisha, Folami, Shawn and wife Joanna and Fela and her husband Fernando; great-grandchildren Devina, Amber, Jordyn, Shannon, Addison and one great-grandson Fernando Chaka; five sisters, Edna, Pearl, Daisy, Hazel and Hyacinth, sisters and brothers-in-law, a host of cherished and beloved relatives, co-workers at Jane Addams H.S., caregiver Sandra Tribble, and friends including friend and confidant Patrick Lyle and wife.
