

Gertrude I. Brown was born to Louise Plummer and George Jackson in Kingston, Jamaica on June 11, 1939. She met the love of her life, the late Noel Brown, at the age of 12 at Trenchtown SDA Church, where they both attended. The couple later married on December 13, 1959.
Gertrude worked as a dressmaker and a school teacher until she migrated to the United States at the age of 27. She settled in Brooklyn, New York. Gertrude worked as a CNA at Jewish Memorial Hospital for 16 years, until they closed. Her coworkers and managers loved her compassion and work ethic. Gertrude was a member of East New York SDA Church. She was the Sabbath School secretary and on the church choir.
Gertrude later moved to Ocala, Florida in the 1980’s, where she became a member of Silver Springs Shores SDA Church, now known as Hope Springs SDA Church of Ocala. She was a choir member, choir conductor, and an usher. Gertrude was a member of the church for many years until she became sick. She was known for her huge heart, always opening her home to others. She committed many selfless acts. Gertrude was loved by everyone she met.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline; son-in-law, Randall; granddaughter, Keisha; grandson-in-law, Jason; grandson, Conrad; granddaughter, Lisagraice; great granddaughters, Gracieanna and Dana; goddaughter, Joan Young and a host of family and friends.
A visitation for Gertrude will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 South Pine Avenue, Ocala, Florida 34480. A funeral service will occur Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM. A committal service will follow at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
