The union of James and Julia Thomas produced five children; Dotlyn, Ida, Hermine, Hazel, and Frederick Thomas. Hermine May Thomas was the third child of Julia and James Thomas. She was born on August 12, 1937 in Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies. She attended primary school in Manchester. Later Hermine moved to Kingston, she attended Olivet Gospel Hall and committed her life to Lord Jesus Christ. In 1968 Hermine migrated to the United State. She lived in Harlem with her aunt and attended Grace Gospel Chapel, also in Harlem. She later resided in The Bronx. She worked at the phone company about thirty years until she retired in 1996. She later moved to Ocala, Florida where she resided until her death.
Hermine loved traveling, shopping, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Her sweet potato pie was described as "legendary", and a favorite among family. She loved giving gifts to her family and friends. She was known for her discretion and her calm spirit, and for always being kind to those in need.
She is survived by her siblings, sisters Dotlyn Thomas Richardson and Ida Thomas Brown, brother Frederick Thomas; their Aunt Inez Woodstock; Cousins Gwendolyn Blair, Gloria Charlton, Madge Woodstock, Tony Woodstock, Clyde Woodstock; nieces Vivene Salkey, Carol Young, Sadie Francis Harris, Keisha Francis Gilliland, and Jacinth Francis; nephew Wayne Francis; family friend Merlyn White; Adassa, Everton, and Michael Charlton and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
A funeral service for Hermine will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 South Pine Ave, Ocala, FL 34480. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 5740 South Pine Ave, Ocala, FL 34480.
