Jeanne Marie King, 84, went to be with God on Tuesday, August 26 with her family by her bedside after a short stay at Cornerstone Hospice in Sumter County. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Henry “Dick” Richardson King Jr. who passed in 2002 and son, Henry “Ric” Richardson King III (Janet) who passed in 2007. Jeanne was born in Chicago in the spring of 1930 and became a Florida resident in 1959, 9 years after marrying Dick. After the loss of her husband, Jeanne joined the community of The Villages where she enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, line dancing in the square (of which she is a gold medalist), and solving Pat Sajak’s nightly puzzles with a glass of wine. Jeanne served 22 years as a registrar for the Broward County School District. Jeanne is survived by children, Ed King of Ocala, Jay King (Carla) of Ocala and Betty Whittaker (Gary) of Clermont. Jeanne will be remembered by her nine grandchildren: Kristi Le, Melissa Taylor, Henry “Hank” King IV, Stephanie Brill, Tiffani Francis, Steven Whittaker, Christina McDevitt, Michael Whittaker, and Jay King Jr and seven great grandchildren. Above all else, Jeanne loved her family most, even Ed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
