

John Frederick Berg II, age 79, passed away at home in Ocala, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anne Berg; his daughter, Amy Gibboney, and her husband, Nathan; his son, Stephen Berg, and his wife, Jaclyn; his grandchildren, Madison and Nathan Gibboney, and Charlotte, Luke, Caroline, and Emma Berg; his sisters, Janice Kitching, Jeanne Berg, and Nancy Keller; and his brother, Jeff Berg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet (Marti) Berg and Chester Aaron Berg; and his two sons, John Frederick Berg III and Chester Aaron Berg II.
John was born December 8, 1946, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and was raised in Battle Creek, Michigan. After high school, he attended Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan, where he received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
John and Anne met and started dating in college. Following graduation, they moved to Florida and were married in Tampa on June 17, 1972. They moved to Ocala in 1974, where he established his dental practice. He worked as a dentist for 42 years before retiring.
John, better known as "Papa" or "Coach Berg," loved life, family, and God. He was loved and adored by many and never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed coaching and playing sports, and attending his children's and grandchildren’s sporting events. He turned his backyard into a baseball field and his driveway into a miniature basketball court, loving to coordinate games with family, friends, and neighbors.
John was a member of the Ocala/Silver Springs Rotary Club and a deacon at Redeemer Community Church PCA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00am at Grace Presbyterian Church.
