Junior Theodore Hamilton 61, of Port St. Lucie, formerly of Brooklyn NY, passed away on October 03, 2019. Affectionately known as JR or Ham he was born in Resource, Jamaica where he grew up in Manchester on August 27th, 1958 to the late Alvin Hamilton and Beulah Heath Hamilton. Junior was the only son for his parents of five siblings. Junior later migrated with his family to the United States where he attended school, as he was a lover of music, especially Jazz. Junior was an amazing and unique individual who was talented and gifted in music. He excelled in playing the trumpet in middle school to high school and even taught himself how to play the base guitar (he just had the ear for it). He later took his talents and played in the Church Choir.
After graduating from Wingate High School where he enjoyed playing basketball on the courts with his “boys” he earned an Associate degree in Automotive Engineering at New York City Technology College, then later pursued a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice at John Jay College. He worked for 24 years as a correctional officer and ended his career as Captain of Corrections. While active on his job, he was a member of the Correction Captains Association and the Grand Council of Guardians.
Junior was a committed family man that took fatherhood seriously. He was a good friend to many without judgment to your faults and always had your back. Junior enjoyed going on vacation with his “boys” playing street basketball and working on cars. He stayed committed to his culture as he enjoyed eating the favorite national dish “ackee and salt fish with fried dumplings. He wasn’t perfect but was reborn in Christ and now rests in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Junior would often say “the choices you make will affect you for the rest of your life” It looks like it paid off, by the choices he made.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving son, Jarrett Deshaun Hamilton, his sister Mable and her sons Eric and Tony, his sister Paulette and her son Scotty. He will also be missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and many others who loved him and, will cherish his memory.
