on December 31, 2017. Born in Hammonton, NJ, to Stephen and Amelia Mazzeo, he graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1960, and married Judy (Anderson) Mazzeo in Versailles, PA on May 27, 1967.
Mike served in the US Navy for 20 years. Upon retiring from the service, he went into the insurance business and attained accreditations as both a Certified Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant from the American College. He continued to work in insurance for 15 years, primarily developing and underwriting new products.
A life-long Catholic, Michael attended St. Joseph’s Church in Hammonton, was a long-time
member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington, Delaware, and joined Our Lady of
the Springs Church soon after moving to Ocala.
Most mornings, Ocala Palms residents could see Mike and his friends taking their 4 mile
walk through the neighborhood.
Mike enjoyed playing the piano and organ for friends and family, or just for personal
enjoyment. Among other hobbies were remodeling, woodworking, chess, and playing cards
with friends.
It was not until retiring to Florida, that Mike and Judy found their second love in
square dancing. He often said square dancing was the most fun he’d ever had, and Mike
continued with more difficult levels of training, up to and including the “challenge”
classes. The two served as co-presidents of two dancing clubs, and Mike continued to send out a
square dancers newsletter for the club members until his illness prevented him from doing
so any longer.
Mike will be greatly missed by his wife, Judy Mazzeo; daughters, Lauren Wilson and
Roberta (Robin) Mazzeo; grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Wilson; his brother, Donald
Mazzeo; his sister, Annette Mazzeo-Eskin; his aunt, Mildred Watson; special friend, Mary
Ann Gardiner; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and hundreds of square dancers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends and family make donations in his
name to Our Lady of the Springs Church, Hospice of Marion County, or the Mesothelioma
Applied Research Foundation.
