Eulogy /Nicholas Jack Younger by Maryanne

1931 was a good year for the Younger's when Jack was born.

In 1974 Maryanne & Jack started their lives in Pompano Beach, Fl.  Living in Tampa; Louisville; Dallas; & retired to the mountains in Lakeside Village, Blairsville, Ga. 

In his retirement years,  playing golf, go fishing & boating with his brother Bruce, Brigitte & Maryanne & traveled to the national parks, etc.  Visited many countries in Europe & other places in the world you could say he saw ½ the world. 

 He smiled & came back with one liners that people enjoyed.  He was smart when watching game shows & knowing the answers.  He loved watching most sports & played semi-pro football in the Air Force.  Easy for an accountant, he prided himself in knowing the sport scores.

Jack was a tender, kind & generous.  Maryanne mostly got what she wanted even if he  wanted to stay home. Cuddles, their dog, loved it when he got down on the floor to play. Jack loved nature & nice drives through the countryside or beach. 

Working outdoors planting flowers & even weeding, yes, even weeding was his idea of beautifying his homes.

His body suffered many years of skin cancer, which he tolerated as being part of his normal ritual. Ant & bee stings were among the doctors challenges.  As for the skin cancers he had biopsy's which got burnt or cut, then, suture removals.  He teased his dermatologists & they would cry when he moved to another state.  Anytime he had surgery in the hospital, he would joke around with the doctors & nurses.  One time he went too far.  When asked what he would prefer to drink, he said, a scotch & water.  They wrote down, he was an alcoholic, which was not true.

We are celebrating his wonderful life on earth even with its ups & downs.

I'm sure he is finally going fishing with The Lord & playing golf, maybe even football.

A good friend has paased. I met Jack Younger at a job interview for an Accounting position in the Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas area. Jack seemed to have all the credenitals we were looking for so I hired him. It was a great decision as Jack did an outstanding job at Texmar a subsidiary of Nevamar which was owned by International Paper. Jack was a good leader and got along with everyone. Later on after Jack retired I got to know Jack even better as a person as he happened to be my brother-in-laws brother and we all got together on many an occasion in Florida playing cards , dominos and always joking around. He had a great sense of humor, something we both shared. I remember a Super Bowl pool that we had and I think Jack won about four different times that night with different scoring combinations. Jack was a good Catholic and very proud to sing in his churches choir and often told me about that and when he would visit with me and go to my church with me he always would belt out a hymn with a nice loud voice. I was very lucky to meet with Jack at his house with my wife in late January. We talked and as always laughed. Jack fought a tough battle against cancer, a tough foe but he gave it everything he had. May you rest in peace Jack and you and your family will be in our prayers.  Amen
