several years. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, on December 9, 1945, Bob was a veteran of the
United States Navy, having served on the USS Lawrence (DDG-4) guided missile destroyer
from 1963 to 1965.
He was a 1963 graduate of Felton High School in Delaware. After service in the Navy, he went
on to attend Wesley College in Dover, Delaware and the University of Florida in Gainesville. He
built a career in Information Technology and Telecommunications for more than 40 years before
dedicating his work to drug and alcohol addiction recovery counseling, a cause close to his
heart. Bob was a talented but humble musician, often playing the Native American style flute in
flute and drum circles, or at powwows together with close friends. He loved to hit the road to set
up camp and admire the natural landscapes throughout the Great Smoky Mountains and Blue
Ridge Mountains.
He passed away peacefully at home with his son in McIntosh, Florida. He is survived by his
wife, Karen Osgood Jones (Knoxville, Tenn.), and by his children: Jason Robert Jones and his
wife Heather Jones (McIntosh, Florida), Christopher Allen Jones (Knoxville, Tenn.), and
Rebecca Sue Jones (Gothenburg, Sweden). He is also survived by his two grandchildren,
Annalyssa Jones and Brendan Jones, his siblings Barbara Jones Duplantis and Dudley Jones
Jr., and by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and innumerable friends. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Ruth (Swenson) Jones and Dudley Jones Sr., his sister Deborah Jones,
and by several close friends.
Memorial services have not been planned. Bob’s family suggests that those who wish to
remember him make a pilgrimage to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,
a place he loved, and take in the beauty of the surroundings.
