

He was born in Council, Virginia, on June 9, 1950, to his mother, Caroline Lambert, and his father, David Lee Austin. Roy was known throughout his life as a brave, intelligent, and hardworking man. He began his working years as a coal miner throughout the 1970s before later moving to Florida, where he started his career as a Florida State Correctional Officer. Roy became a legend in corrections, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him through his dedication, strength, and integrity.
He later met the love of his life, Mary Lu Parrish Austin, on July 10, 1993.
Roy is survived by his children, Scottie Austin, Allison Austin, and Wayne Parrish; his sisters, Wanda, Barbara, and Kathleen; his grandchildren, Josh, Kimberly, Kylee, Mark, Brittany, Hunter, Emma, and Lucas; his 10 great grandchildren and Greyson Austin, who became Roy’s best friend and main man for the past seven years. Greyson will forever miss, mourn, remember, and love the grandfather he spent every day with.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, David Lee Austin; his mother, Caroline Lambert; his mother in law, Dorothy Parrish; his brothers, Ricky Austin and Donnie Austin; and his cherished daughter, Crystal Ann Dye Austin.
