Tomas Melendez‑Rivera, 93, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by generosity, service, and a deep love for life. Born in Ciales, Puerto Rico, to his father Carmelo Melendez and mother Mercedes Rivera, Tomas carried the warmth and vibrancy of his island roots with him throughout his long and meaningful life.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Tomas served in the Korean conflict with steadfast dedication. His patriotism was lived, not spoken — expressed through service, sacrifice, and a lifelong commitment to helping others. He supported military charities throughout his life and was always giving to those in need, often quietly and without seeking recognition.
Tomas valued education and hard work. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ponce. He went on to dedicate his entire professional life to the Puerto Rico Water Works Authority, where he rose through the ranks and ultimately retired as Director of Sales and Services. His leadership, integrity, and work ethic left a lasting impact on colleagues and the community he served.
Tomas embraced life with joy. He loved to dance, bringing energy and laughter wherever music played. He found peace in tending his yard and caring for his flowers, creating beauty with his hands and patience. He treasured family vacations, where he delighted in time together, laughter, and shared memories that became cherished stories for generations.
Tomas was the beloved father of Edwin Melendez (Lumarie), Ariel T. Melendez, with grandchildren Gabriela (Pablo), and Alexandra Marie; Maribel Melendez (Javier) with grandchildren Cristian Custodio (Emily); and Javier Quinones and great grandsons Benjamin and Jameson; Damaris Melendez (Alfredo) with grandchildren Nicole and Valerie. In 2015, he met and married his devoted wife, Claudia Robinson, with whom he built a loving blended family.
Through Claudia, Tomas embraced her children as his own: Ray Paul Robinson (Paige), with grandchildren Michaela Raye, Micah, Preston, and Ashlyn; and Trace Wooten (James), with grandchildren Krystal, Danny (Elizabeth), Lucas (deceased), and Cierra. Tomas cherished each of them deeply, celebrating their milestones and sharing in the joys and challenges of family life.
He will be remembered for his open heart, his generous spirit, and the way he made others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Tomas lived fully, loved deeply, and gave endlessly. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched — with kindness, with laughter, and with the quiet strength of a life well lived.
