Born in Jersey City, she lived in Little Silver and Red Bank before moving to the Seabrook community in Tinton Falls in 2008.
Prior to retiring, she and her late husband, Wilfred (Bill), owned The Riverview Press, Red Bank, which was in business for 49 years.
An active member of Congregation B'Nai Israel, Rumson, she served as the synagogue’s librarian for 26 years until retiring in 2004. Mildred earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Alabama, Class of 1943.
Predeceased by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 1995, she is survived by her 4 sons: Arnold M. Howitt and his wife, Maryalice, of Belmont, Massachusetts, S. Jeffrey Howitt of Manhattan, Kenneth E. Howitt of Hoboken and Lawrence A. Howitt and his wife, Lauren, of Metuchen; nine grandchildren: Matthew and his wife, Melissa, Molly and her husband, Aurel, Alexa and her husband, Lee, Mark, Patrick, Katherine, Francis, Will and Sabrina, and her 6 great-grandchildren: Allison, Jessica, Emery, Celeste, Victoria and Adam.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Congregation B'Nai Israel, 171 Ridge Road, Rumson, NJ 07760, followed by burial at B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Tinton Falls.
Following the burial, there will be a memorial reception in The Garden Room of The Gardens in Seabrook Village, 3000 Essex Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753 from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s name to Congregation B’Nai Israel designated to the library fund.
Ma’ariv services will be held on Saturday 5pm at Neve Shalom, Metuchen.
On Sunday and Monday evenings (Jan 19th and 20th), Shiva will be held at the home of Larry and Lauren Howitt in Metuchen, NJ with a Minyan at 7pm each evening.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (Jan 21st and 22nd), Shiva will be held at the home of Kenneth Howitt in Hoboken, NJ with a Minyan at 7pm each evening.
