Dr. Cantor died Saturday after a brave fight with Cancer at his home in Fair Haven, NJ. Dr. Cantor was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended Syracuse University. After graduating from Syracuse University Dr. Cantor earned his medical degree in 1955 from New York Medical College and completed an internship at the University of Chicago in 1956. Before continuing with his residency Dr. Cantor served as a Lieutenant in the medical corp. as the ship’s doctor for the flagship of the Sixth fleet in the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, Dr. Cantor completed his training and started practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Red Bank, NJ. Over the course of his thirty-seven year career Dr. Cantor delivered thousands of children and even the grandchildren of some of his patients. After retiring in 1997 Dr. Cantor continued to serve the community while volunteering at Our Lady of Providence Clinic in Neptune, NJ and the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank, NJ.
He enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, boating, playing golf, and collecting and repairing clocks. Dr. Cantor was a long time member of Congregation B’nai Israel in Rumson, NJ and an enthusiastic member of the B’nai Israel Congregation Choir and enjoyed many years of membership at Monmouth Beach Club with his family. He is predeceased by a son Stephen and survived by his wife Maria, sister Suzanne Adams, children Claudia Francello, Jeff Cantor his wife Sharon, Pam Cantor, Karen Arnold her husband Dan, Adam Cantor, Rebecca Cantor-Chaplin, Dr. Michael Cantor his wife Sarah, ten grandchildren and his spoiled dogs Archie and Joey. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday at Congregation B’Nai Israel, Rumson, NJ.
